5 Smallest Cat Breeds

Good things come in small packages. And who wouldn't adore those little, adorable creatures? Small cats are cute and attractive, mainly because they resemble kittens too much! Discover some lovely cat breeds that never get bigger and maintain their kitten-like characteristics throughout adulthood.

These cute cat breeds may appear ordinary-looking from the outside, yet they are feisty and spirited on the inside! You can't help but fall in love with these five adorably cute small cat breeds.

Small cats come in a wide variety of shapes and colors. Some of them are as follows:

  • Munchkin
  • Devon Rex
  • Singapura
  • American Curl
  • Burmese Cat

1. Munchkin

Munchin, Small Cat

If you don't like cats on countertops, a Munchkin can be an ideal cat for you, as it can't jump very high. Due to a mutated gene that has caused their legs to be shorter than usual, Munchkin cats are small.

Even as adults, they retain their kitten-like appearance and weigh between 4 and 9 pounds. They have medium-sized bodies, giving them a shoulder height of 7 to 9 inches.

The ethical question around Munchkin cats centers on one core issue: the breed is intentionally created from a genetic mutation that causes dwarfism. The debate is not about whether these cats can live happy lives (many do), but whether humans should selectively breed animals for a structural deformity.

2. Devon Rex

Devon Rex, Small Cat

The Devon Rex, frequently mistaken for their close family member, the Cornish Rex, shares the exact genetic makeup. It is a very lovable, protective, and adoring personality.

The average weight of this cat is between 5 to 10 pounds. These cats were born in Devon, UK, in 1960, and that is where they made their name.

Their soft coat, short stature, wide, round eyes, and pointy ears give them a look of a pixie-like appearance. Devon Rex is also referred to as a hypoallergenic cat because of its fur. These social cats enjoy snuggling and will gladly cheer you up on a bad day.

3. Singapura

Singapura, Small Cat

As the name indicates, Singapura cats are native to Singapore. It is known as the world's tiniest. This rare cat weighs between 4 and 6 pounds and has a silky, soft coat and a muscular build.

The Singapura, despite its compact size, is far from timid! They're the ideal companion if you're looking for a snuggly kitty, as they enjoy nothing more than just cuddling on your lap.

With its ivory color, cute face, and small size, the Singapura cat is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cats in the world. They enjoy climbing and exploring and will ensure they are always the center of attention.

4. American Curl

American Curl, Small Cat

The American Curl is most notable for its oddly shaped, cute ears. Their ear shape, which curls backward, gives them their name. After their birth, their ears are usually like other cats, but after 3 to 5 days, they begin to curl. They typically weigh less than 5 kg, but due to their diverse gene pool, weights can vary between individuals.

American curl cats can be short to medium-sized with silky smooth and straight fur texture. Their life expectancy is 10-16 years. These cats have intriguing eye colors, including white, blue, red, cream, chocolate, and golden. They are cheerful, loving, and energetic cats commonly known for having a dog-like bond with their owners.

American curls have a slim rather than enormous shape and are graceful, well-balanced, and somewhat muscular. They can range in size and frequently appear perfectly proportioned and balanced.

5. Burmese Cat

Brumese, Small Cat

With their large eyes, highly social personalities, and dog-like traits, Burmese cats are the best for converting people who claim they are not fans of cats. Burmese breeds originated in Asia and are known as house-friendly cats. They have small stature, spherical heads, and a pair of gleaming yellow and golden eyes.

Younger Burmese are lively, curious cats that change conveniently with the environment. However, some Burmese may become calm and peaceful as they age and prefer to observe rather than participate in activities.

Burmese cats must have cat tree houses and perches because they are skilled climbers and jumpers. They are indeed a strong, stocky breed, so it's essential to monitor their diet to prevent weight gain, especially if it doesn't get enough exercise.
