ABOUT MIA, THE BENGAL CAT

Let's be real... she's the star of the show so I'll start with the FAQ about her.

When did you get Mia?

Mia was born on May 21, 2020, and came home 12 weeks later, in August right when I needed her most.

She's what some would call a "Covid pet," but to me, she was a lifeline. I had hit rock bottom, and she pulled me back up. I’ll be forever grateful.

How old is Mia?

I would love to do the math for you, but this number changes every year...

Mia was born in May 2020, she came to my home 12 weeks after she was born.

Why did you choose a bengal cat?

I have cat allergies and Bengal cats are supposed to be hypoallergenic.

I later realized that there's no such thing as allergy-free cats. Hypoallergenic cats are a marketing construct and the amount of Fel d 1 (the primary allergen present on cats and kittens) varies from cat to cat.

Mia turned out to give me crazy allergies at the beginning.

I don't know what happened after that but most of my cat allergy disappeared after about 1 month with Mia.

I use hepa filters at home as well as automatic cleaning robot so that there's as little dander and Feld d 1 floating in the air as possible but it's a very sticky protein - Links to these products in the Amazon Picks tab, within Catalog in the homepage menu -

My recommendation is that you interact with your to be cat beforehand if you think you have cat allergies because coexisting can get tough otherwise!

What size of harness does she use?

You are not suposed to ask that about a lady... but I get it.

She is about 10lbs and uses the Medium size of the Houdini Harness.

PRODUCTS WE USE

Many of the products we use were created by us. We only want the best for Mia and when it doesn't exit, we design it.

What harness do you use?

The harness Mia wears in our outings is the Houdini Harness.

The 3 things I like the most about this harness are:

  1. Comfort - Most cats won't even notice it's there.
  2. Escape-proof design - It tightens automatically when your cat tries to back away.
  3. Durability - Made in tactical material, this harness is almost indestructible!
Where does she pee or poo?

We use a small portable litterbox. It takes almost no space and we can prepare a provisional litterbox in less than 30sec.

Mia is very vocal when she has to go, so when she asks for it, we just set it up.

Why a rope leash?

There are mostly 2 reasons behind it:

  1. It's safer for Mia if she happens to fall and get tangled with the leash, because it's thicker.
  2. If Mia gets inside a bush, I can untie the knot at the end and let the leash slide through the bush without it tangling instead of having to get Mia go back on her steps to get her out.

The leash that we use is available for purchase in our Catalog :)

What do you feed Mia?

I recently switched to RAW diet and I couldn't be happier. If you want to know more about it, check out this post.

The brand we use is Darwin's. Go to their Website.

ABOUT BENGALS

Before you dig... don't believe everything they say about bengals. A lot of it is Marketing from breeders.

Are bengal cats hypoallergenic?

There is not a lot of information about hypoallergenic cats. Bengal cats are marketed as hypoallergenic, but I got Mia thinking she was hypoallergenic and I almost had to give her away because I had trouble breathing.

There are things you can do that help, like air purifiers, restricting the cat entry in the bedroom, cleaning often...

I personally got over my allergies after getting Mia but each case is unique.

The best thing you can do is assess how bad your allergies are by talking to an allergist.

Are bengal cats better for adventuring?

What comes first the chicken or the egg?

I don't think there' s anything about bengal cats that make them better adventure cats.

I believe that people who get bengal cats for adventuring, are very involved (it can be an expensive cat breed) and thus, the passion and patience bengal cat owners put might be higher. Then, as these people become successful, other people see it and get a bengal cat to go adventuring.

The adventure creates the fame and the fame creates the adventure.

Summarizing, EVERY CAT is an adventure cat!

If you start early, train often, and finish every session on a high note, you'll have a cat who will want to go outdoors.

How much does a bengal cat cost?

For a pet Bengal kitten, the current average price is $1,500 to $3,000 USD.

Several factors affect this price, including the kitten's traits, what the breeder includes with the kitten, and most importantly, the level of breeder care that went into raising the kitten.

Generally, cheap Bengal Cats are either scams or poorly breeded and socialized kittens.

ABOUT CAT TRAINING

Totally worth it. At any age. Every cat will learn. Start today.

Is my cat too old/young to start training?

Cats of all ages and breeds can learn.

Clicker training is a proven method that will allow any cat to learn tricks and new behaviors.

All you need are some treats, a clicker, and a few YouTube tutorials.

How do I start?

5 years of cat training inside a 10 minute read. What do you think?

Learn how to train your cat in 10 minutes!

How do I train 2 cats?

There are a couple things you can do if you want to train your kittens together:

  1. Use a different clicker sound (so that they don't confuse their "click" with their siblings)
  2. Teach them different tricks (so they don't both do the trick at the same time)

The other alternative, is locking one cat at a time. You can lock yourself with the cat you are training instead of the cat that it's not trained. That makes the experience for the cat that's alone nicer.
